KILLER WHALE (ORCA) EXPEDITION

The Bremer Canyon

We journey to the edge of the continental shelf and the Bremer Canyon, a remote deep-water ecosystem that draws one of the most incredible marine gatherings on Earth between January and April.

Orcas return here in large numbers, alongside long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales, beaked whales, sharks, and abundant oceanic birdlife.

Guided by the expert team at Naturaliste Charters Whale Watching, including researchers and some of Australia’s most experienced cetacean behavioral specialists, every journey is both educational and deeply moving.

Live commentary enriches your understanding of these magnificent creatures, and each encounter contributes to ongoing scientific research. Every sighting of the orcas, or a passing humpback or playful pod of dolphins, feels unique, humbling, and unforgettable.

January to April every year, family pods of orcas visit the waters off Bremer Bay, making this one of the world’s most remarkable places to observe these intelligent marine mammals in the wild.

Just offshore lies the Bremer Canyon, a deep-water environment that supports an extraordinary diversity of marine life. Alongside the orcas, encounters may include long-finned pilot whales, sperm whales, beaked whales, false killer whales, dolphins, sharks, giant squid and an abundance of pelagic seabirds.

The largest member of the oceanic dolphin family, Orcas combine intelligence, strength and sophisticated social bonds. Living in matriarchal family groups, knowledge is passed from older females to younger generations. As the apex predator, Bremer Bay orcas have become internationally recognised for their remarkable offshore hunting behaviour, making this one of the most exciting places in the world to observe these extraordinary animals in their natural environment.

Watching orcas interact naturally within their family groups is a privilege few people ever experience. Every expedition offers a unique window into the lives of these highly social animals and the rich ecosystem they call home.

Food made with love

Good food brings people together. Some of the best conversations happen around a kitchen bench/dinner prep or gathered around a long table (with ocean views!) after a day of adventure.

We’ll enjoy fresh, tasty home-cooked meals, from locally caught fish to a delicious three mushroom risotto. Simple, healthy food made with care.

There may even be a surprise picnic along the way.

Friendships are formed around the kitchen . a communal affair.

Eating out is/obviously not just about sampling the local flavours.

outside dining.

Also about experiencing life as the locals live it,

the chosen venues have been selected for their most perfect setting. The Telegraph Cafe can’t be beaten for food.

We have one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner

.. & coffee and cake! ..

to be sampled about town.

With a view and delectable flavours to match, this venue can’t be beaten for food.

We’ll enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and cake at some of Bremer Bay’s best local cafés and restaurants. Beautiful views, delicious food and the kind of warm country hospitality that makes you fall in love with the place.

Food matters to us. We like to eat well. Shared meals together at home, chosen for our long table with ocean views, good coffee and relaxed local venues are part of the experience.

The Telegraph Café – delicious, generous meals enjoyed with water views in a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting. • Bremer Bay Resort – coffee or a drink perched above the bay, with sweeping ocean views. • Wellstead Museum Café – the Wellstead museum rich in history with kangaroos aplenty. • Bremer Bay Brewing Company – an easygoing stop to enjoy a local craft beer and a dinner out.

Meals are thoughtfully balanced between eating out, always with a view, catering, easy, nutritious and tasty meals at home, Aussie BBQ, picnics and an evening of locally caught fish sourced directly from the local fish factory – fresh and very much part of coastal life here.

This balance allows for appreciation, not excess – active days and calm evenings – the Bremer vibe.

What makes Bremer Bay special?

What makes Bremer special is the local community. Friendly locals who invite you into their home, garden and gallery, a fisherman who has spent his life on the ocean with stories of orca swimming always anti-clockwise around his boat sleeping with one eye open.

Our base is a peaceful, spacious and light‑filled home set on the scenic Point Henry Peninsula, surrounded by nature and ocean views that instantly slow everything down.

Mornings may begin with a swim. Afternoons invite rest or quiet exploration. Evenings are for long‑table dinners, sunsets, outdoor cinema nights under star‑filled skies, and surprise picnics in beautiful places.

It’s comfortable, relaxed stylish
